The new new Cheng Hing

Hey there. I took way too many pictures in HK, so I've been procrastinating and not posting very much. Lame excuse, I know. Instead of doing what I was doing and putting up everything from each day, I'm just going to show you the food for now.

HK is renown for its food, but to tell you the truth, I'll take Korean over Chinese any day. I like Chinese, but I find it pretty oily and tough to eat for several days. Since I was staying with HK natives, unless I explicity asked to eat something touristy and famous, we would usually go somwhere where the locals go. So less extravagant and coma inducing. Here are some highlights.

BBQ goose. We went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from my friend Wanda. It was nice and fatty. Below are some of the other dishes we ordered.

Really amazing vegetables.

Fish and tofu hotpot.

Squid. Like butter.

The area specialty. I will never turn down egg.

We went to dim sum once or twice. I like dim sum a lot, but after eating it, I always just want to take a nap.

Dumpling filled with shark fin soup. Sorry Yao Ming, I couldn't resist.

Since 20 somethings in HK usually live with their parents, they try their hardest to stay out as late as possible. That means lots of stores, restaurants, coffee shops and dessert parlors are open way into the night. On my last night, we rambled around for a good while and finally landed at this little dessert place. Vinny insisted that I try the frog gills.

Frog gills with some root, lychee, and coconut juice. Served warm.

The frog gills really didn't taste like anything but looked pretty much like snot. Apparently it's a popular dish for women because it gives your skin a healthy glow. Good for me because Korean women do love their men pretty! More on that later...

  1. Where hasn't that Lawrenceville Athletics shirt been?

What will you do when that shirt finally wears out?
