Doc Oct

The morning after my basketball banquet was painful. I had a horrible hangover, and realized that almost all of my father's relatives would be coming over for brunch. Just to make things a little more interesting (Japanese game show style), my cousin had spoken to me earlier about eating live octopus, so she decided that this day would be a great one to serve this unique food.I kind of just wanted to stay in this position all day. In fact, after my uncles and aunts laughed at my "one shot" story, they told me it was OK to take breaks throughout the meal to lie down. I really do love my family.

I took a bunch of pictures of the octopus, but you can only really give live octopus its justice on video. How was it? Really really awesome. The tentacles definitely suction onto your tongue if you don't start biting right away. My cousin's son Dennis didn't handle it as well... he was sitting across from me and looked like he was going to cry the whole time.
My cousins created a beautiful spread. The theme was definitely fresh seafood and vegetables.Miraculously, I handled the food extremely well. I've never had tastier shrimp, and the fish was excellent.
Since Koreans love their alcohol, there are a million and one different dishes to cure a hangover. This was one of them. Spicy broth with bits of fish, mushroom, and vegetables. The steam from the soup makes you feel great, and the spice lets you sweat out that alcohol. Seriously, after eating this I felt 70% better. My family just kind of sat and watched me down my first bowl in 2 minutes. So they gladly gave me a second bowl with lots of broth. A shower and a long nap later, and I was recovered!
